       Crossing the Andes

Along the historic Sanmartinian Route

Following the trail of the Army of the Andes

20260207_105333.jpg

Following in the footsteps of those who crossed the Andes more than 200 years ago, this journey follows part of the historic Sanmartinian Route through the Portillo-Piuquenes Pass, one of the most emblematic routes in the Andes.
One of the columns of the Army of the Andes advanced through these mountains in 1817, and years later General San Martín himself used this same route on his return from Chile.
It was also the path chosen for generations by muleteers who crossed the Andes transporting livestock and goods, keeping alive a tradition that remains part of the region's identity.
Today, traveling these trails is a way to connect with history, discover unique landscapes, and experience a mountain range that, more than two centuries later, continues to leave its mark on those who cross it.

To the rhythm of the mountain

For 6 days and 5 nights, we'll venture into the heart of the Andes, exploring vast landscapes where the mountains seem to stretch endlessly. We'll cross glacial rivers and hike trails that wind through some of the most remote corners of the mountains.

The first night will be spent at Dr. Antonio Scaravelli refuge, and the following nights at the historic Real de la Cruz refuge.

It is worth noting that both spaces are shared and, depending on availability or personal choice, camping will be available.

The journey will be led by local guides, and experts with extensive experience in the area and a deep knowledge of the mountains.

On the fourth day, we'll reach the Border Marker between Argentina and Chile, one of the most anticipated moments of the journey and a place rich in history for those who choose to cross the Andes.

                       Where the Journey Begins

The meeting point will be at the Manzano Histórico, located in the Los Chacayes district, Tunuyán department, in the western part of the Uco Valley, at the foot of the Andes.

Deeply linked to the history of San Martín, this mountain corner offers accommodation, gastronomy and service options for those who wish to arrive in advance.

It is located 39 kilometers from the city of Tunuyán and 114 kilometers from the city of Mendoza, the main gateway for those visiting the province.

From here, the journey begins, taking us deep into the Andes and through landscapes that witnessed one of history's most important events more than 200 years ago.
